Finally Used Online Ordering!
So I finally used Zaiyafood.com and ordered my food for pick up at Cafe Zaiya online. There were still a few glitches–some of the things I wanted to order did not have the option of “add to cart” like yesterday, but most still were available. I got the Chicken Tatsuta Sandwich, Kinpira Gobou, and Choco Cornet for a total of $7.74 including tax. I also got a free Ito En iced tea when I picked up my order. When I picked up my order, there was no line, it was ready, and I didn’t have to sign anything. In that respect, there were zero glitches and the online ordering system worked perfectly.
As far as the food. The Chicken Tatsuta Sandwich is something I seem to repeat getting even though I’m never fully pleased with it. It is decent, but certainly not their best sandwich. Yet, I find myself craving it from time to time, so I order it. It is ginger marinated chicken–which is lightly marinated and also lightly fried, a fried egg, cabbage, lettuce, and mayo. Like I say, it’s decent and adequate but certainly on the lower end of their sandwich options. In fact it pales in comparison to the Whitefish Sandwich, Spicy Chicken Sandwich, or even the Jumbo Chicken Sandwich. So unless it sounds like your thing and you want to check it out for yourself, I’d advice getting one of their other sandwiches.
The Kinpira Gobou is marinated burdock root and carrots. Again, it’s adequate. Nothing too special about it and I’m unsure what the marinade is as there is no strong flavor in particular other than what I imagine is the burdock root. My reason for getting it was that I wanted a side and it was cheap ($1.50) and at least some sort of vegetable that I could convince myself was a healthier option as a side. Also, the tofu and the side salad did not have the “Add to Cart” button so I could not order either of those.
The Choco Cornet was delicious and a rare splurge for me. However, I figured that yesterday after lunch I was left wanting something sweet and last night I was craving chocolate so why not? Basically the Choco Cornet is a bread funnel filled with chocolate fudge. It has the good balance of simple bread (it tasted somewhat like challah) with a delicious–I repeat DELICIOUS–chocolate fudge. It was a dark chocolate fudge that was a great texture and plentiful. In fact it was spilling out of the cornet, so you definitely do not feel as though you are cheated on the chocolate. At $1.75 it’s worth the splurge to satisfy any chocolate craving.
